What Can We Do For Peace's Sake?
What should we be doing for peace?
I try to post on peace sites and talk about the issues. I want to help educate and motivate other people to be active for peace.
I think the people we have in leadership positions is really important so I try to be informed about politics.
One thing I have noticed is that things can change really fast if something becomes mainstream. For example, I know a lot of us have been trying for decades to get people to realize that we need to respect our environment. One good movie by Al Gore and some well funded environmental messages and things seemed to move along much faster. Maybe there is something fun we can do on a site like this to attract more people and get more people involved? Recycling was an odd (and some said tedious) activity until lots of people started doing it and it just became an obvious and sensical part of our lives.
I also think it would help if we show the world to the world. So many people have no idea about what is going on beyond their immediate surroundings. I think it would help us get closer to the goal of peace on Earth if we use sites like this one to connect with each other. We could talk to each other, show each other pictures of our surroundings, tell stories about what is happening in our areas, and share success stories about how we are moving toward the goal of peace. In addition to these positive communications, I think it also would help if we could see the conditions of people in Darfur, Iraq, Palestine, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Chinese factories, American factories, Detroit, etc... A lot of these images are important, but we rarely see them on our monopoly television stations. It actually is illegal for us to be shown the coffins of returning soldiers.

I think that the most important things needed are to be understanding and informative. So many people lack the knowledge they need to find the peace they seek. Then when they look for the knowledge no one is understanding enough to give them what they need. No one expects there to be websites on peace in general. Get the world out.

I like how we all come together to talk about peace on sites like this one and many others.
We are leading by example by discussing the topic of peace.
Our current media systems do not offer this type of information so it is up to all of us to be here building this conversation and community so other people will see that peace is active.

The monopoly media is largely to blame for this. The internet and sites like this one offer information about peace, but most people are still sitting passively in front of their monopoly media screens.

Just as the newspapers are failing as more people get information from a diverse range of sources online, I think the cable monopolies will go out of business as more people access video and entertainment through the internet.

There is a wonderful video posted by Naj on her blog Neo-Resistance called a Cinematic Anthem that I think would benefit any who watched it. I found it rather powerful.

I'm not sure I understand the power of the Cinematic Anthem video. It always is good to see people in other countries doing something like singing and dancing, but I don't understand what the song and video is about.
It did make me think that if these are Iranian musicians then we need to see more stuff like this so people don't make decisions about Iran based soley on the characterization of their leader Mr. Amadinijad. So many times, we go to war against a leader we are led to hate or fear with very little thought given to the people who will die in the bombings.

What I want to do for peace is to train activists in the skills necessary to make change. With facilitation and mediation skills it is possible to quickly bring large groups of people together, to come up with ideas that are widely popular, to resolve conflicts that seem completely entrenched, to make everyone on your side.
But without them huge amounts of energy go into very little progress.
