Peace is Active

We have the ability to live in peace

I like the idea of being part of a peace community.

I think we need a place (many places) where we can talk about the goal and strategies of peace.

I guess my main desire right now is to see more active peace communities online. Most I visit are like this one where there are some good contributors (thanks for your thoughts and posts to those who are here), but overall, it is kinda slow.

However, I went to a Sarah Palin website the other day and it was humming with all sorts of people talking to each other and posting videos, etc...

Do we need a "cult of personality" in order to get a good political discussion going?

I know there are many people who support the goal of peace and I also know there are many people who think the mainstream media does a poor job of covering and reflecting the desire and possibility of peace on Earth.

So why do peace websites have such a hard time getting more traffic and activity?

I don't think anything necessarily needs to change. I just think we need more people coming to this site and taking part. For me, it is a nice place to post some thoughts and have discussions with people who are seeking the goal of peace on Earth. As I say many times, I think one main problem stopping the goal of peace on Earth is the monopoly control of our media systems.

Hi Willie

I've enjoyed the information you post about more democratic forms of media.

In terms of just needing more people here, I guess we could just ask anyone reading this to get involved and invite their friends to join.

I also want to thank everyone who is already here. I don't post very often, but I enjoy visiting this site to read what is being written and to look at some of the videos being posted.

It is nice to know there are people who care about the goal of peace.

I agree Paul. Thanks to everyone who is here.

Invite your friends and participate. This will make this peace community grow.

I think the "cult of personality" worked for the Sarah Palin site for a short time, but now she is fading into the political dustbin.

I think people just need to find a place where there are good conversations going on about the issues surrounding the idea of peace. I think that is happening here so I would think this community will continue to grow.

I agree. Although "peace" is not as exciting (nor as easily defined) as a politician who inspires the base of the right wing.

No matter how big or small this peace community is, a gathering of people communicating with each other about peace is important.

I think a lot of people share the same ideas many of us share, but they are stuck watching television or listening to the radio where they will never hear the things they would hear on a site like this one.

So true. I think the intenet is doing great things for democracy and the prospects for peace.

We need to keep the internet as an open channel for communications.

Unfortunately, I think the Bush Administration and their militaristic ways was very good for peace activists because it got people involved and put on notice.

Now that Obama is in power, I think many people who used to be active have gone back to being passive. When Bush was in power, we probably had a collective feeling the "we" needed to do something about it. Now that Obama is in power, we probably have a collective feeling the "he" will take care of things.

It is nice to get a break from having a President who was directly from the looney bin, but we can't leave everything to Obama. We all need to remain active for peace.

We now have a leader who supports legitimate governments, fair markets, and healthy environments.

This is a time to be more active, not less.

In terms of getting things happening here - I think we need some facilitators - people who will find the right questions to ask, and the try to meet and make friends with everyone - make them feel welcome.

It can't hurt to say a few controversial things as well - arguments get people involved.
