From the extraordinary experience of the Auschwitz- Birkenau Bearing Witness Retreat our Rwandan participants challenged us to take the Bearing Witness Model to the site of a contemporary Genocide.

We are proud to announce Bearing Witness Rwanda, April 11, 2010 to April 16, 2010.

Our Rwandan retreat is the first of its kind and will take place immediately after the “Week of Remeberance” in which all of Rwanda remembers and honors all those who were victims of the 1994 100 day Genocide. Because our intention is for the Retreat to genuinely serve the needs of the Rwandan people, and to evolve in to a form that is authentically Rwandan, we are limiting the retreat to no more than 20 non-Rwandans. Space is limited but there is still time to participate this historic five day retreat.

The Retreat will offer Rwandans of all back grounds and visitors from other countries the means for bearing witness to the realities and aftermath of genocide and support the development of the means to heal, reconcile and build community with peacemakers around the world.

The Peacemaker Institute has partnered with Rwandan Genocide Survivors, Rwandan Prison Fellowship, Rwandan peacemakers, the Rwandan Government as well as all victim advocates, and the rarely heard from “Rescuers” (those who risked their lives and the lives of their families to help victims in the 1994 Genocide.)
