What Is This Feed?
C-SPAN 2 is the network known for covering the U.S. Senate. It began after the Senate allowed television cameras in 1986, and it shows floor debates, votes and confirmation proceedings without commentary.
On weekends, the channel is known for Book TV, which features nonfiction authors and long interviews.
When Can I Watch?
C-SPAN 2 runs around the clock. Senate coverage comes when the Senate is in session, mostly during the week, and start times change daily. Weekends are the time for Book TV. The online stream requires a TV provider login.
Why This Feed Matters?
The Senate's rules give individual members great power to delay or debate, and those procedures can be hard to follow from news reports alone. Watching a nomination or a filibuster unfold shows how the rules work in practice.
The Senate held out against cameras for years after the House let them in. Today, few people would argue for turning them off.
