Watch Canada's Parliament Live: House of Commons and Question Period

This player shows the official Parliament of Canada YouTube channel when it is live. For committees and full coverage, use ParlVU below. If nothing is live, the player may say the video is unavailable.

What Is This Feed?

The Parliament of Canada publishes live video of its proceedings, and this feed comes from its official YouTube channel. ParlVU, Parliament's own video site, carries House of Commons sittings and committee meetings.

The highlight for most viewers is Question Period, when opposition members press the Prime Minister and cabinet. Proceedings take place in English and French, Canada's two official languages.

When Can I Watch?

On a typical sitting day, the House of Commons meets from 11:00 am on Mondays, 10:00 am on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and 2:00 pm on Wednesdays, usually finishing by 7:00 pm. Friday sittings run from 10:00 am to 2:30 pm. These are Ottawa times.

Question Period runs from 2:15 to 3:00 pm Monday through Thursday, and from 11:15 am to noon on Fridays. The House does not sit every week, so check its calendar first.

Why This Feed Matters?

Canada's government must keep the confidence of the House of Commons, and Question Period is the daily reminder of that duty. It gives the opposition a set time to demand answers, and it gives citizens a chance to see how those answers hold up.

Comparing Ottawa with Washington or London is also an education in itself. Each democracy solves the same problem, holding power to account, in its own way.
